MODERN
See even more of this California Mediterranean Backyard HERE
This Sacramento backyard oasis is essential California Modern. In true California fashion, this yard is blessed with beautiful citrus trees. When one of those trees needed to come down to make way for this spacious deck, DBM was sure to come up with a creative and useful solution for it. We used the trunk of the tree to make a sculptural base for a patio table, by adding a base and a glass top, this fun table really came together well! Talk about a statement piece! Lining the edge of the deck with a long bench and some coordinating throw pillows really expands the seating capacity of this lovely space. Finished off with some sleek chaise lounges along the pool, this backyard is ready to make the most of those sunny California days.
GLAM

If this gorgeous garden doesn’t take your breath away, I don’t know what will. I recently read about the new Restoration Hardware owned and designed space in the heart of Napa’s wine country (Younteville, CA). RH is always an inspiration, but this locale feels like you get to step right into the catalog pages. Of course, this is not a residential space, but a scaled-down version of this glam outdoor seating area would be lovely tucked away in your home’s garden. Note the mixed materials of wood, stone, metal and some luxurious fabrics. The addition of the crystal chandelier just takes things up a notch in the glam department. Recreate this look with a single sleek outdoor sofa and a long low coffee table, both with clean lines. Keeping the furnishings simple will make the touches of luxe, like the chandelier or draped material over the pergola, really stand out. Impress all of your guests with a glam secret hideaway in your own backyard, and then invite us over for a glass of bubbly!
COASTAL

Even without a waterfront view, we love using coastal elements in garden seating to recreate that fresh air, seaside feel. The coast is a place to breathe in deeply and relax, and that is the feeling we love to recreate when designing a coastal inspired outdoor seating area. This Pottery Barn look uses a driftwood like finish on the furnishings, along with a crisp white upholstery to keep it fresh and breezy. The space is grounded with darker complimentary neutrals and blues to really round out the coastal feel, not to mention the fun sea-life accent pillows. In your space, keep the placement out in the open, with natural elements accenting the space. This breezy coastal garden seating will certainly be your favorite place to unwind.
COUNTRYSIDE
See the whole Amalfi Collection HERE
Moving a bit inland from our coastal inspiration, we look to the countryside. That term can be broad and lean in many style directions, but in general, having a Countryside inspired space means you likely love a design featuring elegance mixed with an ease of style befitting a lovely country estate; whether it’s in France, Italy, or the hills of California. This Janus et Cie “Amalfi” collection has us ready to don our largest sun hat and catch up on summer reading while lounging among the lush greenery. We love the classic style elements of these furnishings, black wrought iron with gold ball finials show off a true european flair. Set this garden seating arrangement among your most lush greenery and your yard will bring the countryside charm you’ve been looking for.
MINIMALIST

One of our favorite ways to look at a design is with a minimalist eye. That doesn’t necessarily mean stark and empty, just more intentional with selection of the items in the space. Lately, we have used some wonderful modern furnishings that are truly functional art pieces. These sculptural ‘Mood’ Lounge chairs from Janus et Cie are a beautiful feature in this lush backyard landscape. Staged in front of this redesigned fireplace wall, with it’s clean plastered surface and sleek, low firebox, this is certainly an inviting oasis. We are ready to cozy up on a cool California evening with our cup of tea or glass of wine and enjoy this lovely outdoor seating space.
